The blade for this Bowie is made from a random pattern Damascus steel. It has a blade length of 236mm, is 49mm wide at the start of the clip, is 6mm thick on the spine and has an overall length of 400mm. The spine has fancy file work running from the ricasso to the start of the false clip and the Damascus blade is made from 220 layers of 1075, 15N20 and pure nickel. The blade for this stainless carbon san mai vest Bowie is 150mm long and a tad over 5mm thick on the spine, it has a core of 80Cr V2 which has been laminated with Hitachi Shiro 2 and outer layers of 431 stainless. I'm really pleased how the carbon in the stainless has migrated into the Shiro 2 layers. I've just completed my first three day Damascus chef's knife class with a student. On day one Mark made the billet and performed multiple forge welds on it to get his layer count up to 124 layers. The billet was made from 1075 + Cr high carbon tool steel, 15N20 and pure nickel. The blade was also hardened and tempered by the end of the first day.
